Do you ever pick the wrong stain or paint colour? I think I did this time. Our 14 year old son made this little crate box for me at my request, and I added the little casters from Home Depot.
I enjoyed hand painting some lettering, FRESH MILK on one end, and MOUNTAINVIEW DAIRY on the other. I stained it with Minwax English Chestnut and it looks way darker than I had planned. Almost chocolate brown.
This little crate is darker than I wanted, but I am so proud of my son for making it for me.
I'll live with the darker colour for now, and maybe when it warms up I can try sanding it back a bit.
Hoping you are having a great weekend, I'm busy painting our basement guest bedroom. The wood piled against the baseboard in the background is to finish our fireplace board and batten. Lots of projects on the go here!

Your son is a keeper for sure. Love the box, it is perfect. Sometimes a little steel wool will take away just enough of the color to give you the look you want. Might give it a try. Hugs, Marty
Wow! You are busy! That was really sweet for your son to make that for you. I'm sure you'll be able to make it look the way you want in no time. That will provide you with so many uses.

That's so cute! I love when kids build things.
You can sand it down or chalk paint over it and repaint the lettering if it gets annoying. I say annoying because I've done it and it annoys me to look at something until I have it just right.

I think once you sand back the stain a little that you will love it all over again! Sorry it didn't turn out the way you wanted.
Impressive! Maybe if you just choose a lighter color - white or yellow or something - and a thin brush, and outline your lettering, it would give the contrast you want? The wood color is nice, but it's close value to the blue. I love it that you put it on casters! :)

Wow pretty impressive that your son made this! Maybe you could paint it white and distress it? And repaing on your words? It's really cute, but that is annoying when it doesn't come out as you hoped. I like the caster idea too! Great job!
Lovely! I agree with others that once you sand it back you will love it. And of course the fact that your son made this, and wow what a lovely job, it is all the more special!
