Board and Batten Begins in the Family Room

It has taken awhile, but we got some work done on the board and batten in our family room this weekend.

We have basically finished the kitchen side of this wall

but I had trouble deciding what to do on this side (and we needed some special cuts for the two differently sized sides of the fireplace insert.) I'm happy with the progress but as luck would have it the hardware store ripped one of the boards wrong and we couldn't finish. I will be busy painting this week for a friend, but as soon as that is done I am getting a board ripped and continuing on. I'm also trying to decide whether or not to paint the old sideboard we use as a TV stand. I could leave it as is, strip it or paint it (probably black.) It is a really solid old piece with wide plank backing and square forged nails. I would love to hear your opinion.

I'm sharing this with...

The board and batten looks so fantastic!! It add so much character to a room! I have an idea for your TV stand; strip it and then use liming wax on it. Of course that would be a looooot of work. It would be much easier to paint it black. And that will look cute too. :)

The wall boards are looking great. I would leave the sideboard as is because it goes so well with your table.

Love the board and batten look.
Not sure about painting it black. I tend to like the rustic pine.

The board and batten looks so great, Elizabeth!! I love how you are carrying it through into your family room. How much wood do you have in those spaces already? Mixing up wood and painted pieces can freshen up a space….if you already have several wood tone pieces then I vote to paint it!

PS - I adore your kitchen table!!

I love the board and batten Elizabeth! It looks amazing! I would leave the piece as is. It is nice to have the warmth of the wood among all the white board and batten, or at least until everything is put back together and then see how you like it! Happy Monday! Angie xo

The walls will look amazing when it's all done. I love that look! As for the sideboard, it's a lovely piece as is. It would be a shame to paint it.

I love your walls and am glad you are continuing around the corner with the board and batten. I wouldn't paint the sideboard either. You need some natural wood to compliment your dining table and the black might be too dark and make it too heavy looking. It's a beautiful piece!

That is going to look so good when it's finished! I love board and batten. Taking it into your family room is a great idea! It's such a cottagey style and practical too.

I adore your board and batten. I would dearly love to have this in my dining room. I say paint the dresser. I would love to paint some of my wood pieces but my husband won't let me. I think it adds even more character. Good luck with the rest of the project!

I don't particularly like rustic pine, so it would be gorgeous in black, I think.
Your board and batten is so nice, I really like it. Good luck on getting it finished soon.
Hugs, Cindy

Oh man...I hate when the hardware store makes a mistake. I bet you could cut them better yourself. :)
